The Ugly Ones
"They live in a lawless land where life has little value... compared to death. Another day... another death... another dollar."
Escaped outlaw Jose Gomez returns to his home town pursued by bounty killer Luke Chilson. The towns people protect Gomez, unaware, at first, that he is now a changed and dangerous man.
Curator's Take
“Notable for being one of the first spaghetti westerns, released around the same time as Fistful. It’s grittier and less stylized, feeling more like a transition from the classic American B-western.”
Why This Movie Is Important
A cynical study of hero worship. It depicts a town that protects a bandit, only to be destroyed by him. It deconstructs the romantic image of the outlaw, showing the rot beneath the charisma.
